For the NY State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG), a “target” is not what you might think. It’s not a bull’s-eye for archers or a discount retail chain. Rather, it’s a way of helping to prevent and detect fraudulent, abusive and wasteful practices within the state’s $52 billion Medicaid program. OMIG is using Salient’s software solution to more accurately zero in on potential misuse. It’s a simple premise: better targeting should produce better results. They saved $425,000 and created a “sentinel effect” that may lead to a cost avoidance of millions of dollars more. Find out how they did it: READ MORE HERE…

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) visited Horseheads-based Salient on June 3 to see what all the buzz was about coming out of Albany’s OMIG (Medicaid). After a 45-minute presentation, she told reporters Salient was “the kind of program that I think can make a difference in reducing our deficit – by making sure we take the fat out, and take the fraud out.”

Mary Kay Delgiacco is no stranger to data – she knows where to find it; how to analyze it; and who can use it to make the best possible decisions for optimal performance. But to do her job she needs the right tools. That’s where Salient comes in. Thanks to Salient, she can now also identify new behavior patterns in a fraction of the time it once took. The Priority Community Healthcare Center (PCHC) in Elmira, NY is celebrating its first year in operation and hitting its stride all at once. Opened last March to serve as the primary care office for up to 4,000 Medicaid recipients in Chemung County, the Center appears to be just what the doctor ordered for greater healthcare efficiency and quality of service. “Utilizing the Salient Corporation’s data tracking tool, which allows us to combine patient electronic medical record data with historical paid claims data, we now have the ability to identify true cost savings in the program while also showing improved access to appropriate care for the patients enrolled in the program … We can now see that we have, in fact, reduced over-utilization of the emergency room and other healthcare services, and more appropriately directed patents to primary care services as well as improved pharmaceutical compliance.” —County Executive Tom Santulli

Affluent Queens Neighborhood Has Highest NY State Medicaid Billing http://www.salienthhs.com/2011/08/medicaid-fraud-video/ http://www.salienthhs.com/2011/08/medicaid-fraud-video/#comments Fri, 19 Aug 2011 18:12:43 +0000 Brendan Boris http://www.salienthhs.com/?p=3361

Medicaid is a health care program reserved, primarily, for the poor. Benefits are based on federal poverty guidelines. To be eligible in New York state, a single person must earn less than $17,000 a year. With that in mind, you might expect the most impoverished neighborhoods would be the ones that generate the most Medicaid bills. That’s not true. It turns out the state’s highest Medicaid billing total can be found within a relatively affluent community: Rego Park, Queens.

Gartner Summit Coverage – Salient Plays the Big Room http://www.salienthhs.com/2011/08/salient-at-gartner-2011/ http://www.salienthhs.com/2011/08/salient-at-gartner-2011/#comments Fri, 19 Aug 2011 17:24:12 +0000 Brendan Boris http://www.salienthhs.com/?p=3364

On May 4th, the Salient team played to a packed house at the recent Gartner Business Intelligence Summit in Los Angeles, where they presented a landmark performance management solution delivered to the Office of the Medicaid Inspector General of NY State. The solution involved over 4 billion transactions worth a total of $253 billion reconciled to the penny.

1. BI has been and continues to be a top priority for CIOs, but has now also become a top CFO priority. A key reason for this trend is that companies are looking to extract greater value from their data. CFOs want to ensure that technology investments lead to a more tangible ROI, while leading to smarter decision-making.

2. The Business Intelligence market is currently valued at $10 Billion, grew by 13% in 2010, and will continue to grow at this pace until 2014 when it’s projected to be valued at $15 Billion. The increased growth and investment in BI is driven by greater executive interest and sponsorship by CIOs and CFOs as outlined above. Executives see a tremendous amount of potential in the data their companies are sitting on. Spinning that data into a competitive advantage involves making it meaningful, useful, and accessible to the right people in a timely manner to support better decision-making.

3. The submarket for Analytics is currently valued at $1.65 Billion, and it will be an area of continued growth as users demand high-powered analytics within their BI platform. In-memory analytics, a relative competitive advantage for smaller vendors a few years ago, has become industry standard. Users are demanding interactive dashboards, along with predictive modeling capabilities. These are among the areas that will continue to drive growth in the Analytics submarket.

4. The top business benefit is making information more accessible to users. Buyers are shifting to purchasing BI solutions from independent, best-of-breed vendors, as opposed to stack vendors (e.g. Oracle, SAP, etc.). The new, independent vendors are differentiating themselves by providing in-memory analytics, dashboards, ease-of-use, and fast deployment and proofs-of-concept (POC’s). What really resonated throughout the halls of the Hyatt Regency in L.A. was that user-friendliness climbed ahead of functionality on the list of user priorities.s

Drivers for platform growth will depend on:
• embedded BI for SME’s
• mobility
• new usability and mash-ups
• collaboration and social networking features
• engendering a performance management culture

We think all of these trendlines augur well for Salient and its users.

• We are an independent, high-growth, best-of-breed vendor that Gartner recognized as an up-and-coming “niche player” in the 2011 Gartner BI Magic Quadrant Report. We were recognized for our fast processing speed, and we achieved a top-3 ranking for business benefits, and single best rating for product quality, performance and product support

• We offer a fast, easy-to-use platform with powerful in-memory analytics

• Our easy-to-use visual data discovery platform empowers users to extract maximum value from their data by providing answers at-the-speed-of-thought and supporting the ability to maneuver seamlessly between a wide range of views and analyses

• We are a true enterprise-wide solution that can be leveraged at all levels of an organization, through any device, and that supports collaboration through unstructured data, and engenders a performance management culture through a positive, reinforcing feedback loop.
