Salient Healthcare and the New York State Medicaid Redesign Team

New York State Department of Health (DOH) is in the midst of major reform of its $53 billion Medicaid program and is using Salient’s Medicaid Visual Data Mining software to track progress.
Governor Andrew Cuomo appointed a Medicaid Redesign Team (MRT) to develop a series of initiatives to restructure the program and realize financial savings in order to both improve the program and help balance the State budget. The MRT developed over 70 initiatives which are currently in various phases of implementation.

The MRT and the State Department of Health have chosen the Salient solution to track progress on savings initiatives and improve Medicaid oversight and management.
Salient is currently in the process of training 100 DOH staff to use this system. Initial trainees are actively tracking the Medicaid Redesign Team proposals, providing a new level of transparency to the Medicaid program and monitoring proposals in real time.

On October 5, 2011, the Office of Health Insurance Programs gave a live demonstration of the Salient system to the Medicaid Redesign Team. That presentation and participants’ reactions are available for public viewing.
